Trees do Fall!!!

Locating your camp requires consideration for

  • type of ground
  • available shade
  • slopes or flat ground
  • hollows that will fill with rainwater
  • neighbours
  • space required

One other thing to consider is what happens if a tree falls! I learnt this almost the hard way as shown below. that tree was full of termites, which we found out on Christmas night!

I’ll be giving trees a safe falling distance from our camp setup from now on!

That tree branch should be in the air! Luckily it landed on the day use gazebo and trailer, and not on my head which was just inside the white gazebo behind the trailer!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to my first post on the web. My nickname is ‘Dodgy’ (used by my camping buddies) and I love camping and four wheel driving. Especially at the beach. It is so relaxing to get away from the rat race and the view is spectacular! I am lucky enough to live in Brisbane, Australia, which has at least 4 different beach camping areas that are close enough to visit for a relaxing weekend getaway, or even just a quick day trip.

I have learnt a few things during the last 20 years of camping and 4x4ing in these beach areas. I decided to write about some of these experiences to help others who are just discovering beach camping, or those who may not have even started yet! Of course there will be lots of photos as well, so if you don’t live near the beach, at least you can also enjoy the view, like this….
